Chemistry Class 11 CBSE Reduced Upto 30%

Due to the Covid-19 prevailing conditions in the country, the officials of CBSE forward with the Union HRD Minister have determined to reduce the course load. The officials have succeeded the syllabus of Grade 11 CBSE 2020-21 including the Class 11 Chemistry Syllabus by up to 30%. It was also stated that core concepts have not been deleted, only some parts of the chapter have been forbidden from the Class 11 Chemistry Syllabus.

The Chemistry Class 11 CBSE encompasses both Theory and Practical. The theory exam carries 70 marks while the possible exam is held for 30 marks.

 In this section, we will embrace the Chemistry Class 11 CBSE syllabus of both Theory & Practical.

 

Syllabus For Chemistry Class 11 CBSE

As stated above, the system exam of CBSE Class 11 Chemistry carries 70 marks. The total time maintenance of the exam is three hours. Class 11 Chemistry includes 13 chapters:

Unit 1: Some Basic Concepts Of Chemistry

 

General Introduction: Importance and scope of Chemistry. Atomic and molecular masses, empirical and molecular formula, percentage composition, chemical reactions, mole concept and molar mass, stoichiometry, and calculations based on stoichiometry.

Unit 2: Structure Of Atom

 

Bohr’s model and its limitations, the concept of shells and subshells, dual nature of matter and light, the concept of orbitals, quantum numbers, Heisenberg uncertainty principle, shapes of s, p and d orbitals, electronic configuration of atoms, de Broglie’s relationship, rules for filling electrons in orbitals – Aufbau principle, Pauli’s exclusion principle and Hund’s rule, stability of half-filled and filled orbitals.

 

Unit 3: Classification Of Elements & Periodicity In Properties

 

Modern periodic law and the present form of the periodic table, periodic trends in properties of elements -atomic radii, Ionization enthalpy, electronegativity, ionic radii, electron gain enthalpy, valency.

Unit 4: Chemical Bonding And Molecular Structure

 

Valence electrons, ionic bond, covalent bond, Lewis structure, bond parameters, the polar character of covalent bond, the covalent character of ionic bond, the geometry of covalent molecules, valence bond theory, involving s, resonance, VSEPR theory, the concept of hybridization, molecular orbital theory of homonuclear diatomic molecules(qualitative idea only), p and d orbitals, and shapes of some simple molecules, Hydrogen bond.

 

Unit 5: States Of Matter – Gases & Liquids

 

Three states of matter, intermolecular interactions, the role of gas laws in elucidating the concept of the molecule, Gay Lussac’s law, Avogadro’s law, ideal behavior, empirical derivation of gas equation, types of bonding, Avogadro’s number, ideal gas equation and deviation from ideal behavior.

 

Unit 6: Chemical Thermodynamics

 

Concepts of Systems and types of systems, work, heat, energy, surroundings, extensive and intensive properties, state functions. The first law of thermodynamics -internal energy and enthalpy, Hess’s law of constant heat summation, measurement of U and H, enthalpy of bond dissociation, formation, sublimation, phase transition, atomization, ionization, combustion, solution, and dilution. Second law of Thermodynamics (brief introduction) Book of entropy as a state function, Gibb’s current change for natural and nonspontaneous methods. Third rule of thermodynamics.

 

Unit 7: Equilibrium

 

Equilibrium in physical and chemical processes, the law of mass action, equilibrium constant, factors affecting equilibrium – Le Chatelier’s principle, ionic equilibrium- ionization of acids and bases, strong and weak electrolytes, degree of ionization, ionization of polybasic acids, buffer solution, dynamic nature of equilibrium, acid strength, the concept of pH, solubility product, common ion effect (with illustrative examples).

Unit 8: Redox Reaction

 

Concept of oxidation and reduction, redox reactions, balancing redox reactions, in terms of loss and gain of electrons, oxidation number, and change in oxidation number.

Unit 9: s-block Elements

 

Group 1 and Group 2 Elements General introduction, occurrence, anomalous properties of the first element of each group, diagonal relationship, trends in the variation of properties (such as ionization enthalpy), electronic configuration, trends in chemical reactivity with oxygen, hydrogen, and halogens, water, use.

 

Unit 10: p-Block Elements

 

General Introduction to p -Block Elements

Group 13 Elements: General introduction, occurrence, variation of properties, oxidation states, anomalous properties of the first element of the group, electronic configuration, trends in chemical reactivity, Boron – physical and chemical properties.

Group 14 Elements: General introduction, occurrence, variation of properties, oxidation states, electronic configuration, trends in chemical reactivity, anomalous behavior of first elements. allotropic forms, Carbon-catenation, physical and chemical properties.
